Market Cross marks the spot this Saturday for fun treasure hunt and pirate-themed activity day

8 April 2024

All hands will be needed on deck for a fun-filled pirate-themed activity day and treasure hunt, taking place at Selby’s Market Cross shopping centre.

Shoppers can expect to see a pirate look-a-like roaming around the popular centre for the event this Saturday [April 13] between 11am and 2pm.

Families will be encouraged to take part in a pirate-themed gold-digging activity that is sure to bring a bit of the seaside to Selby.

The Joker Entertainment company will be providing pirate gold coins and gems for the public to dig and find in a sandpit. It will be a case of X marks the spot as treasure hunters try and find as many buried coins as they can.

In addition, attendees can enjoy delicious baked goods from the popular trader Cray Bakes, who will be serving from 10am within the centre.

Youngsters can also enjoy free face painting and glitter tattoos.

Melissa Cutforth, Marketing and Events Co-ordinator at Market Cross, said: “This promises to be a really fun day out for all the family!

“Come along and dress up as your favourite pirate and get involved within the online competition and be in with a chance of winning an amazing prize!

“This will also be a fantastic chance to check out the range of fantastic shops, cafes and restaurants we have here at Market Cross.”

The centre is also running a competition online for the best pirate-themed jokes. People are to email entries to Mel at Melissa.cutforth@marketcross-selby.co.uk by Saturday [April 13].

The winner will receive a £20 gift voucher to spend at leading discount bookstore The Works in Market Cross.
