Selby’s Hand of Hope charity shop now open at the town’s Market Cross shopping centre
8 May 2023
The charity shop Selby Hands of Hope has now opened in its brand new location at the town’s Market Cross shopping centre.
The local charity was founded in 2009 and has been supporting the Selby community for more than a decade, raising over £1.1 million to support local good causes in that time.
Selby Hands of Hope have now combined their two charity shops at Gowthorpe and Brook Street to their new modern spacious shop which is in a great central position at Market Cross shopping centre.
The new shop has been given a recent face lift by Dransfield Properties who have owned and managed the centre for 18 years. It now has a striking new traditional shop front as well as a full interior refurbishment. The unit was previously occupied by Access Selby.
All the money raised at the Selby Hands of Hope store goes back into the local community – supporting Selby’s residents and organisations.
Donations of unwanted clothes, games, books, appliances, and furniture are all welcomed at the new store, enabling people to give a little back to their own community. Donations also allow the charity to offer a low-cost environmentally friendly way of buying clothing and other items to customers.
Charity Coordinator, Ann Rhodes, said: “We are delighted to have opened our new store at Market Cross and we hope with the kindness and generosity of residents within the district of Selby we can grow and support those in need”
“As a local Selby charity, we could not have made this move without being given the opportunity to do so by Dransfield Properties and the help and support of Ardent Development Ltd, Kevin Woods, Fairfax Plant Hire, Removals for You, Infinity Systems, Jordans Solicitors, Arc Signs, Sign & Display Solutions, Crombie Wilkinson and our Chairman, staff and trustees.
“Any donations big or small, are a huge help to us and we want to remind customers that buying second hand is a great way to save money and purchasing preloved items doesn’t cost the earth.”
The new Selby Hands of Hope shop can be found opposite The Works in the central courtyard area at Market Cross.
The shopping centre, which can be accessed from Gowthorpe as well as the Morrisons car park, has undergone a major investment and improvement programme in recent years. As well as attractive new shop fronts across the centre, stunning new residential units have also been created above the shops.
Managing Director for Dransfield Properties, James Shepherd, said: “Charity and community are really important to us here at Dransfield Properties and we are delighted to welcome Selby Hands of Hope to Market Cross.
“The store is a great addition to the line up at the centre and looks fantastic – it’s great to see the new shop now open and we wish the team all the very best in continuing their brilliant local work and fundraising from their new location.”
Market Cross shopping centre currently has two retail units available, and all enquiries should be directed to Estates Surveyor at Dransfield Properties, Olly Jansen, on 01226 360644.
